JC IC.02.01.01 — Infection prevention & control program
IC.02.01.01 is the Joint Commission standard that asks one question of every healthcare facility it surveys: can you point to a written infection-prevention program, show that it's implemented, and prove that it's working? The standard covers the full loop — risk identification, written program scope, activities and interventions, measurement, and corrective improvement — and expects to see evidence of all four, not just a binder on a shelf.
What the standard requires

IC.02.01.01 expects a written infection-prevention program that identifies facility-specific risks and ties protocols to those risks rather than a janitorial checklist. Programs must be implementation-readable — meaning any surveyor (or any new crew member) can open the binder and follow scope without a translator. The standard also requires measurement: documented indicators, evidence of tracking, and a visible corrective-action loop when performance drifts. Evidence is not optional; unmeasurable, undocumented work does not satisfy it.
